Music Appreciation

An introduction to the basic elements of music combined with a survey of Western art music.

Objectives

Unit One:

          Basic elements of music.

Unit 2

     Introduce Western art and music traditions and trace their development from the Middle Ages to the present.

Unit 3

     Study the influence that politics, social structure, religion and other factors had on music and other art forms.

Unit 4

    Provide students the opportunity to listen to and study music of the Western tradition through recorded music and live music performances.

Broaden the students’ listening experience beyond the Western tradition by including music of non-Western cultures.
