Learning 100 -- Reading Strategies

            In this class students will not only work with the Learning 100 program which can dramatically increase students' reading proficiency, but will also give each student a cannon of tools to use in active reading. These active reading strategies will assist students in comprehension and retention of learned materials.

This is a computer assisted course helping students improve their reading skills in the following areas:

            Comprehension

            Speed

            Inference

            Fact vs. Opinion

            Scanning

            Skimming

            Sequence

            Hierarchy of Ideas

            Main idea/Support

Also, we will be looking at reading strategies to help all students as different reading levels.

This class prepares students for the WASL and ITED tests by providing instruction in:

            Assisted Reading Strategies

            Writing Styles and Skills Enhancement

            Oral Language Clues

            Test Taking Strategies

            Individual Exam Strengths and Weaknesses

            Journals
