Leadership

 

This course is a vital part of the overall leadership development program for students at Tiger Mountain Community High School . This course provides the critical element of analytical and intellectual examination and reflection of certain core issues in the practice of leadership. These objectives will be achieved through open discussion, honest self-assessment, experiential exercises, and observation of real-life leadership practice. What is valued in this course are honest relationships and dialogue, risk-taking, dedication to the topic of leadership, initiative, and exploring the confusion and gray areas involved in these topics.

 

Objectives:
  1. Following Tiger Mountain ’s 3 R’s and 3 C’s as a model for leadership and community building
  2. Examination of some of the contemporary definitions of leadership, and developing a personal definition;
  3. exploration of selected historical and contemporary models of leadership, and how individual styles compare to such models;
  4. understanding of the responsibilities and privileges of leadership, including moral and ethical decisions and the use of authority and power;
  5. examination of the context of leadership, mostly central to which is the relationship between the individual and the group;
  6. application of the foundational areas of leadership to practical and real-life situations within the immediate university environment

 

Students will follow the ground rules for the effective exchange of ideas:
