I am one of those rare people that was born and raised in Seattle. I graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Geography and my teaching credential and headed for the wilds of Alaska for fun, adventure and two years of teaching. After returning to Seattle, I was employed by the Highline School District for the next 33 years—the last 28 in Special Education, after getting my MEd in Special Education from Seattle University. During the time that I taught at Highline High School from 1985 to 2006, my favorite teaching activities included hands-on activities in social studies and career awareness as a way to encourage student learning. I even served as Girls’ Club Adviser for all of those years—boy, can I plan a Mother’s Tea! I have spent my spare time over the years in many outdoor activities, including trips to our properties in Ocean Shores and Brewster. I have had a variety of summer jobs which have been valuable when helping students understand careers. I also run a small nuisance wildlife trapping business on evenings and weekends. Supporting all of my wild ideas and adventures are my wife, a long-time insurance employee, and daughter—who got married this summer after completing her BA at the U of W. In my spare time, I enjoy building and remodeling houses, fishing, hunting, and riding ATV’s. I really enjoy working with people and am proud to be on the staff at Tiger Mountain.
