Joy Allison
After graduating from Hazen High School, I attended the University of
Washington where I majored in English literature and Drama. Along the
way I acquired a masters in Special Education and a job with the Kent
School District working at Grandview school and Kentwood High School. I
taught a variety of subjects but focused mainly on Social Studies and
Language Art courses. Teaching Drama was one of my passions and I spent
a lot of time working on various theatrical presentations both at school
and in the community. I was able to work with Stanley Kramer’s daughter
who starred the play, “The Miracle Worker” as well as write and produce
plays working with special populations for the Renton Parks department.
A job opened up at Tiger Mountain in 1993, and I have been here ever
since. Currently, I teach Orientation, Film as Lit., U.S. History, World
History, European Studies and Psychology. One of highlights of my time
teaching at Tiger was to produce and direct a production of “Steel
Magnolias” which was performed at the “old” Village Theater. It was
quite exciting to see Tiger students running the whole show and learning
at the same time! In my spare time, I enjoy reading so much that I
completed my Library Media Specialist degree at the University of
Washington and look forward to fostering the love for reading with the
Tiger Mountain students.
